Alcohol Rehab – Questions To Ask When Selecting An Alcohol Treatment Program

March 2nd, 2009 · No Comments · Alcohol Treatment Program

There are a number of different alcohol rehabilitation programs and to get the best results, it is important to find a program that works for you.  Each and every person has their own needs and as such, what may work for one person, may not necessarily work for another. A good drug rehab program will not be secretive about what they do and what you are committing to. You have to do some research to find the treatment program that’s right for you.

It is not always easy to ask questions about an addiction treatment program, however you have to get past your reticence and ask them anyway. This is the only way of making sure you make the correct decision. If you encounter someone who is difficult to talk with and avoids your questions, feel free to ask for someone else or seek information on another, more helpful, program. If you are nervous here are 5 common things to ask about then feel free to ask anything else after that.

Does the program work for your needs and the level of care you need? The main thing is that a program’s treatment and care match your needs and requirements.

The alcohol rehab is either certified by the CARF or The JCAHO.
These two organizations specialize in accrediting drug rehabilitation programs and require that they meet specific quality standards, pass inspections and meet the accrediting organizations health criteria and other guidelines.

What kind of philosophy does the  rehabilitation center employ and what methods of treatment do they use? There are various ways of treating drug addiction and different rehab programs treat their patients in different ways. Examine the different programs types and locate the one you are the most comfortable with! If spiritual treatment is not your thing then try a physical or psychological treatment.

Does the alcohol rehab center have qualified personnel. Staff should be licensed drug counselors and at least some of them should have master’s degrees in this field. Make sure to ask how a counselor is chosen for you. In order to recover properly you must have a compatible relationship with your counselor.

How is a weekly schedule organized for patients? Ask for a copy of a schedule so that you have an example. Using this aid will help sort out all the activities that you are going to participate in and the total amount of sessions you shall receive. You will find out what kinds of issues you will focus on.

This is an important decision so don’t feel embarrassed about asking as many questions as you need to help you make the right decision. After doing your research and choosing a program, it is time to begin the program and start living the rest of your life.
